| Jace took the boys to the petstore and let them play with the animals. While there, Isaiah and Tyler were looking at and touching the hermit crabs. Isaiah was a little nervous and was being very careful when Tyler bumped his arm. Isaiah jumped back and screamed, "TYLER!" loud enough for all to hear in the store. Tyler starts giggling and Isaiah says, "It could have bit me!". Tyler says, "they don't bite, they just pinch", and Jace agreed that they can pinch and told Isaiah that he knows someone who can pinch harder than anyone in the world. Isaiah's eyes go wide and he asks who. Jace says "God". Isaiah promptly starts giggling like crazy and is picturing the long arm of God sweeping from the sky to pinch someone. Like the Transformers. (No, we don't have any Transformers, but he used to play with them at therapy.) But think about it. God is a Transformer. He can change us for the better, if we let him. If he "pinches" us, it's to get our attention. Romans 12:2 | | |
| This morning i think of Miss Leah, my kiddos kindergarten teacher. She taught them the song, "I'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic!". And no, i haven't had coffee. No caffeine. Just thrilled that Holly is better. Baby M no longer has hand, foot and mouth disease....or whatever its called. And..................... MIMI IS COMING HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! | | |
| VACATION PART TWO On Saturday, we attended Jon Fisher & Melanie Riehl's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding! An outdoor reception was the perfect time to meet CBS friends we hadn't seen in awhile. Jace even sang "Oh My Dove" with them...oh the memories that brought back for him. We then drove to Gatlinburg. Baby M was miserable...fever and lots of tears. He didn't sleep well at night and we wondered about ear infection. Sunday afternoon, Jace took care of the older 4 while i found an ER. Sure enuf, he had an ear infection. That was an experience! It was a tiny ER and crammed full of people. Very friendly people. They told me that they don't care for the doctor who is in office during the week. So they wait for the weekend, bring family/friends and a picnic and see the ER docs, because they "know what they're doin'!" I was the only one who didn't have anyone else there - but they were quick to make me feel welcome...even offering to share their doritoes. They told me that i should expect to be there at least 4 hours and maybe longer this time because there was a car accident a few hours earlier and 2 teenagers were killed. That put things in perspective and i realized i shouldn't complain about a few hours lost on our vacation. Finally, after 4 hours, we were off to a pharmacy. And WOW! There it was....a Walgreens!! Baby M is registered at Walgreens! This will make it easier! Or not. The pharmacy closed at 6:00 on Sunday evening. But again, very cheerfully they directed me to a Walgreens with a 24 hour pharmacy....25 minutes away...in the wrong direction from our hotel. *GROAN* By this time, i'm feeling cranky!!! (And had lost all perspective!) We finally made it back - without getting lost!! Jace was miserable. It was his turn for a fever. And i regret to say i wasn't very sympathetic, because i was cranky, remember? EEK! Sorry hon!!! Monday, we slept in and went swimming. On Tuesday, we drove to Cherokee to research Isaiah's history. His grandfather is a full-blooded Cherokee. We stopped at the Cherokee Indian Museum for several hours and still didn't see it all. Then we stopped at this little shopping center and met Otter, a very friendly Cherokee Indian, born and raised there, who gave Isaiah the name "Silent Warrior". Otter and 2 of his friends had a platform and would perform for tips. Isaiah really liked the "Hoop Dance" and was able to join them for the "Friendship Dance". We could have spent another couple days there, but it was time to head home.
A sign under this rifle said, "Over 160 years old, this flintlock musket was one of the guns used to execute Tsali, a Cherokee farmer who resisted Removal. Following a brief trial by Cherokee leaders, Tsali was condemned to death for his part in the murder of two soldiers killed during his escape. This flintlock musket has been modified into a rifle and converted to percussion firing mechanism. It is probable that the rifle has been rebored at least once."

This was very interesting!

| VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an unusual vacation. 2 weeks. Penn Valley, Bald Eagle Boys Camp, Mifflinburg for Jon Fisher's wedding, Gatlinburg, Cherokee and then home. The kiddos liked P.V. --rolling down the big hill and seeing the deer farm. But what they were really excited about was seeing Chief Delmar at the Boys Camp. We got there Sunday afternoon and he took us out back for a hotdog/marshmallow roast, which was a real treat for all of us. We had a campfire! Holly was thrilled and surprised at this...we were outside, not in our small living room fireplace!
On Monday, Chief Delmar took us to their best rope swing. It is about 30 feet tall, and swings out over the mountain, for that spine-tingling sensation you otherwise get only from Sprite. Isaiah flew like SpiderMan.
Then he gave us a tour of his campsite while his boys were at chuckwagon. It was a breath-taking walk up the mountain trails...beautiful green woods...its hard to describe! We then stopped at the Ice Shack, a small store run by the camp, for ice cream and hot pretzels. YUM! On Tuesday, we had the chance to see a helicopter airlift a small airplane that had crashed a few weeks earlier. The children ate strawberries from the field while we were waiting for the helicopter to return. Baby M loves strawberries!
We were sad to see Delmar go back to work, but excited about swimming in the river. It was cold!! Very, very cold!! It sure didn't take long for our toes to feel numb!
On Thursday night we were invited back to the Prospectors Camp for supper. We had hotdogs (and by now, our kiddos thought they knew just what they were doing) and 2 of the boys made a delicious funfetti cake in the dutch oven and we had homemade ice cream. Two games of "Trees" finished off the evening. Lots of memories, many new friends.
We had to go back to the rope swing for one last hurrah! And on to the stream beside the chief's lodge for more exploring. We tried not to slide down the steep, slightly muddy bank to the cold water. Didn't work. We were a wet, muddy, cold mess in no time.
We were sad to leave. It was a busy, fun-filled 5 days.
